November meeting

We are gearing up for our November clay day, which is just a couple of weeks away on Sunday 27th at Greenside Community Centre in Marylebone, London.

At our last meeting before Christmas, Jude will be showing us how to make her hollow baubles, based on large hollow lentil beads. You will learn how to make a bauble with a cutout design on the front revealing a crackled metal leaf lining.

The LPCG will be supplying domed slump moulds for anyone who wants to use them at the meeting, as well as copper wire & pliers for making the hanging loops. (Please note we'll be making the baubles themselves - the owls are image transfers - a technique we demonstrated earlier this year).

Plus a short demo from Christine on how to make a hanging Christmas tree!

Materials required:

- clay

- round cutter (7cm works well with the slump moulds that will be provided)

- small cutters (optional)

- metal leaf (optional)

- texture sheets (optional)

- course sandpaper (200 grit)

- superglue

- liquid clay

For the Christmas trees you'll need dark green clay, a small amount of tin foil and some cereal box type cardboard. LPCG might be able to provide some but bring some if you can!

We'll be having our usual "Show and Tell" table (show off your fabulous creations and troubleshoot your failures!), as well as the traditional slab of Weetabix cake. The amazing travelling LPCG Library will be there (check out the books, journals and DVDs available here). Plus, it's a great place to have a look through (and buy) the fantastic MonkeyAnn cutters and texture-makers.

And there will be the usual masses of opportunities to see what other people have been making and pick up ideas, tips and advice.

Clay Days 2017: We will shortly be adding all our 2017 clay days to the website, so if you'd like to see the line up and book in advance, you're very welcome to do so. The dates are:

  • 29 January - Colour Special!

  • 26 March - Tetra beads

  • 28 May - Bangle-making

  • 30 July - TBC

  • 24 September - Free-form hollow beads

  • 26 November - TBC

We have left a couple of days 'unplanned', so if there are techniques you'd like to see demonstrated (or something you'd like to demonstrate yourself) please tell us - all offers and ideas extremely welcome!

Workshop 2017. We are planning to run at least one weekend-long workshop in 2017 - currently likely to be Carol Blackburn teaching her new Perfume Purses, and another UK-based polymer artist. Date, venue and price TBC but places will be limited, so please contact us if you might be interested, and would like to be kept informed.

Events calendar: The LPCG website now has an events calendar, so if you're looking for polymer-related events, workshops, exhibitions and classes, have a look and see if something might appeal to you. And if you've got a polymer event coming up, please use the form just underneath the calendar to tell us about your event - a great way of letting people know what's happening.

Price increase: Lastly, due to increases in the cost of venues and other expenses, the price of a Clay Day will go up from £15 to £20 on 1 January 2017. This is the first increase for many years, and the additional funds will help to support the group, pay for demos, and buy new materials and tools.
